Our story

From Holey Bagel to coffee catering, a standard set in 1979

Espresso Subito grew out of a San Francisco bakery and more than forty years of hospitality. The rule has not changed since day one.

The bagel that started it

Gary is a food person first. He moved to the Bay Area, couldn't find a bagel worth eating, and made his own. Holey Bagel opened in San Francisco in 1979 and grew into a well-loved city bakery, where Gary learned what hospitality at volume takes: early mornings, exacting ingredients, and a standard that never slips because the line is long.

That rule still runs Espresso Subito. Source the best, accept nothing average. Every espresso we pour four decades later answers to it.

From bagels to beans

Espresso Subito began in 1998, when Gary carried the Holey Bagel standard from baking into coffee catering. It grew into one of the Bay Area's longest-running mobile coffee caterers, serving weddings, corporate events, and private parties from San Francisco to Napa.

More than 40 years of catering now sit behind every event, and it shows in the details: arriving early, reading the room, and keeping the line moving without ever rushing a shot.

The beans we pour

Espresso Subito pours from Moschetti Artisan Roaster exclusively, a family-owned, small-batch roastery founded by Fabrice Moschetti, who came from France, settled in Napa in 1989, and started Moschetti in 1990. The roastery runs out of Vallejo and delivers to more than 300 Bay Area locations six days a week, within days of roasting.

Moschetti buys directly from farms and cooperatives, pays fair prices, and roasts each batch to its own character rather than a house style. That is why we pour it and nothing else. The coffee at your event is days from the roaster, not months.

The Dome

At the heart of every setup is The Dome, an Elektra Belle Époque. Hand-built in Italy from copper and brass and crowned with Elektra's signature eagle, it rises in a tall vertical form that draws guests in and starts conversations on its own.

It is the kind of machine you find in the grand cafés of Europe, the centerpiece before it pours a single cup, and it dresses for any room, from a gallery opening to a vineyard reception.
